Begun as a march which survives as movement two, my symphony for
band was written in 1992 and 1995. |
The first movement as close to minimalism as I ever want to
get. I like this sort of cracked minimailist style very much. This movement can be played seperatly from the full symphony. |
The second movement is a march with lots of tone clusters. |
The Third movement features a Marimba ostanato and with any luck should leave the listener with the felling that they have traveled through a spectacular mountain range. |
FINALE Written in the fall of 1995 is a simple work employing two
different scales in F# and A. First of all the scales were superimposed over the
over tones series in each key. Where no tone was available in the scale the
adjacent tones were given in quarter notes. |
The similarity between the two scales is represented by the second
theme which is presented in groups of five. The second theme gradually comes
sooner and sooner creating an excitement bringing us the logical
conclusion. |
