The musical compositions of Richard Burdick

Opus 21:

Luxor sketches for two horns, Opus 21

This Horn duet contains the important work:
"Mandala study #1", which was inspired by the interval studies of Pauline Oliveros.

In a mandala, I limit myself to just a couple of melodic intervals. In this duet I use minor sixths and half steps. Plus I use an "In passing rule": you may jump back through the previous tone to a note of acceptable interval without repeating the previous tone. So when I start this duet in horn 1 with C# - A - F, I jump back to C# because of this rule, I could have gone C# - A - F then to G# this way also this lends itself to hyperbola shapes, which I like.
