What is the I ching?

The I Ching is sort of a fortune telling system of the ancient Chinese.

It is a binary system based on the yin - yang duality.

 

Many composers have been inspired by this system

John Cage used this as a way to find randomness,
my work is opposite of John Cage's. I use this to help me find universal patterns - so much so that I now feel confident that I am a Musical Cosmologist.

I have a unique musical cosmology that could be compared to Wagner's motivic style of writing that he used in the Ring Cycle.

As a composer I bounce back and forth between a music that is symbolic and a music that is organic, and human.
The I Ching and it's meanings is the fundamental part of my symbolic art.
